MEET DIANA MAHONEY

Wondering if it’s actually possible to transform yourself and your relationships?

I’ve got good news.

Are you tired of rehashing the same issues with your partner knowing inevitably nothing will change?

Are you burnt out from the constant feelings of guilt and frustration that follow stretching yourself too thin to meet the needs of everyone around you?

Wish you had the tools to help your partner finally hear you and bring the deep connection from those early days back into your relationship?

If you’re here, I’m guessing you’re a compassionate, go-getter who can solve almost any challenge that arises at work.

You’d much rather spend your time off the clock enjoying meaningful conversations and time with the love of your life and making fun memories with your kids than spend it stuck having the same worn-out fights around dishes, laundry and bedtimes. Don’t you wish you could change your relationships so that being with the people you love most was something you looked forward to, treasured and enjoyed?

You’ve come to the right place. Because that’s right where I come in.

I’m Diana and I have over a decade of experience helping clients create transformation within themselves and with the people they love. I’m not a smile and nod therapist, I’m not here to just agree with you and I’m not afraid to make honest observations, to share what I’m seeing and to provide actionable direction – because this isn’t brunch with your girlfriends.

I give clients doable strategies to create happier partnerships, be better parents and have more peaceful, less resentful relationships with the people you love most.

I can’t change you, YOU have to change you and I am thrilled to be your cheerleader in that.

I work best with clients who are willing to roll up their sleeves and do the hard work to get results. I especially love working with immigrants and children of immigrants because they tend to be hard-working, driven and empathetic people who can make such gains in therapy when they learn evidence based strategies and see insights and connections between their past and present.

I approach therapy with warmth and empathy but also am action oriented. I will encourage you to practice new behaviors outside of our sessions, to make small shifts to achieve the life changes you desire. I have extensive training in working within women’s health, the perinatal period, with couples, immigrants and those who have experienced trauma. This training and continued education deeply informs my work, allowing me to offer evidence-based strategies from the research to challenge my clients to do things in a new way. You can expect me to be genuine and curious about your experiences, bring a sense of humor and warmth to our sessions but also speak directly and give honest observations (when helpful and appropriate!). Therapy is not just about making your life better, inevitably difficulties and unforeseen challenges will arise throughout all of our lives. It is about giving you the confidence and equipping you with the tools to ride the waves as they come, consciously reflecting and choosing your responses rather than living in a state of reactivity to circumstances.

I got into this work because above all else, I wholeheartedly believe that we are all capable of creating change in our lives. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of seeing so many of my clients do just that and change their relationships and lives through their own commitment, dedication and hard work every day in my practice. I believe that same thing is possible for you and look forward to walking alongside you in your wellness journey.

What it’s like to work with me. . .

Clients describe me as warm, direct and insight-driven. My goal with therapy is to provide a space in which clients learn the skill of mindfulness so that they can gain a deeper awareness of why they respond the way they do and learn skills to help them choose their response rather than feel like they are living in a constant state of reactivity to their daily circumstances.

Our sessions will be focused on helping gain greater insight about how your past is showing up in your present, patterns you find yourself unconsciously engaging in that keep you stuck and how to bridge the gap between where you are in your life and the life you want to be experiencing.

My Guiding Principles

  • At the heart of my approach is my belief that while we cannot choose everything that happens to us in life, we do have a choice in what comes next. I believe in helping clients tap into their own internal wisdom and to use insights they gain to help them not simply be the victim of the hard things that have happened to them but to be empowered to create a path forward and the life they want for their future.

  • Normal is simply what we know and we tend to repeat what we have witnessed. I understand that oftentimes clients come to therapy unconsciously repeating things from their past. I believe in helping clients build an awareness of their history so they can choose what strengths from their family and past they want to carry with them into their future and what negative patterns are no longer serving them that they would like to let go of.

  • I am dedicated to helping my clients achieve the changes they seek. However, I know that change doesn’t happen from simply showing up to weekly sessions – change occurs with the decisions my clients make outside of the therapy room in their day to day lives. I strive to provide warmth, empathy and a safe space for my clients to process their challenges while also challenging clients to stretch themselves through action to create the changes they seek. I believe in my clients ability to change and know that this comes with balancing support and challenging them to stretch and move towards insight inspired action as well.
